Sardar Patel's Jayanti will be celebrated on 31st October 2025. This is a regional public holiday that is celebrated in Gujrat and honours India's first Deputy Prime Minister, Vallabhbhai Jhaverbhai Patel. He was born on 31st October 1875 in Nadiad, a small village in Gujarat.
He went on to study law in England and returned to India in 1913, after completing his degree. Later on, after hearing Mahatma Gandhi speak, he entered politics and soon became a powerful opponent of British rule in India.

Patel climbed through the ranks of the Indian National Congress, eventually becoming the party's president in 1931. He received the title of 'Sardar' which means 'chief' in Hindi, Persian, and Urdu. Patel became India's first Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister after the country's independence in 1947. Patel was instrumental in the post-independence integration of over 500 princely states under the Indian Dominion. He earned the title of 'Iron Man of India,' due to his uncompromising commitment to national integration.
Patel died on 15 December 1950. In 1991, India's highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna, was bestowed on him posthumously. In 2014, his birthday was marked as Rashtriya Ekta Divas (National Unity Day).
